Erika Huddle

Erika was born and raised in Hawaii. She left Hawaii for college in New Jersey at Rutgers University. After graduation, Erika joined the Peace Corps in Guinea, Africa where she worked as an educator for two years in a small village. Upon returning to the United States, Erika attended Columbia University where she received her Masters Degree in Special Education with an emphasis on Autism and Mental Retardation. After getting married, Erika moved to Wilmington. Erika has worked for over 6 years as a Special Educator with experience in various re-mediation programs, developmental therapy, educational and IEP consultation and behavioral modification.

 

 

 

 

Patty Williams

Patty is a dedicated mother of two children with personal experience with children with special needs. She has over 15 years experience in the education field. She has worked as a teacher of students from pre-school to the college level and served as an educational consultant and behavior specialist. Patty has a Bachelors degree in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders and a Masters Degree in Special Education from UNCW. Patty was born and raised in Swansboro, NC. She is an active member in her church and has taught Sunday School for over 9 years. Patty has been awarded Pender County Teacher of the Year and received a Certificate of Appreciation from the New Hanover County Schools Advisory Council for the Education of Children with Special Needs.

 

 

 

Erin Humphreys

Erin is the athletic member of our team. Erin trains for triathlons, has worked as an ocean rescue/water safety instructor, and was member of the UNCW Sailing Club and Surf Club in college. She is also first aid and CPR certified.  Erin is currently working on her Masters Degree in Curriculum Instruction Supervision at UNCW and has over 4 years experience as an elementary school teacher.

 

 

 

 

Christina Ballard

Christina was born and raised in Silver Spring, MD but moved to Wilmington to attend UNCW. Christina has over 5 years experience as an elementary school teacher. Christina excels in behavior management, developing unique behavior plans for students, helping them regulate their behavior. It should also be noted that Christina has been nominated for teacher of the year three years in a row.  Christina approaches teaching with a true desire to pull out the best in every student.  No matter what the students needs are, she strives to meet them at their level. Through the use of differentiation and multi-sensory teaching she works to help them reach their highest potential not only academically but behaviorally as well.

 

 

 

 

Virginia Wheeler

Virginia grew up in Warsaw, NC on her family’s farm. She became a city girl after she moved to Wilmington where she went to UNCW for both her Bachelor and Masters Degree in education. Virginia focused her graduate studies in Language and Literacy and this commitment to teaching reading continues. Virginia has taught for four years and utilizes research-based teaching methods and multi-sensory instruction, which allows her to be an effective teacher for all skill levels. Virginia is also an experienced tutor of the Wilson Reading Program.

 

 

 

Kathy Sellers Carta

Kathy is a veteran educator with over 19 years experience in the elementary school setting.  She is currently working as a teacher assistant in a first grade classroom at Wrightsboro Elementary School. Kathy has been trained in and implemented numerous reading programs including the Wilson Reading Program. Kathy has experience working with children of varied abilities including students with learning disabilities, behavior disorders, and autism. Kathy also teaches Sunday School and Children's Church at her church in Castle Hayne.
